Nostalgia is something we all feel - reminiscing the past and holding onto memories... We replay those moments in our heads and think of what would happen if we made different choices. Somehow the past becomes more magical and special than the present and the future. This is how I felt when I composed this piece. The repetitions of the theme with slight variations in harmony represent different doors of the past opening to new opportunities that I can only imagine and not live. This composition of mine is one of the simplest yet most emotional pieces I've written. I wrote it upon returning to my home after a wild fire that destroyed many trees, animals and burnt houses. The notion of "going home" is very important in our lives as it represents familiarity, security and shelter. This incident made me question the definition of it, and the meaning behind it. The first thing that came to my mind was: "A boat on sand, going against all the odds of life." I composed this piece to reflect the internal and societal struggles we face, and named it “Boat On Sand” as a symbol to remind myself:  I don't need to change who I am, I just need to add some wheels!
